Horseshoe Hill Cafe

I ate at Horseshoe Hill for the first time in early March, just prior to pandemic shutdowns. I’m not even really a chicken fried steak person, but something made me order it. I got “Matt’s Way” and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I live about 5.5 hours away and I’m considering planning another trip just so I can have this again. SO SO SO delicious.

Good food, excellent service. A lot of authenticity.

I've been looking forward to eating at this place for quite some time - and wasn't disappointed! A great new addition to the Stockyards - proper cowboy food (I had chicken fried steak, obviously!) but done really well. A good range of twists on the CFS for those that want a bit of variety - and a vegetarian option too, surprisingly. See you again next year!

The chicken fried steak is the best in town

So glad we chose Horseshoe Cafe to be our first ever chicken fried steak experience. We had a family trip to Fort Worth and rolled into this cozy place with a group of 8 and no reservation. Jessica was able to seat us right away and then provided us with phenomenal service. She helped the decision challenged make some excellent choices. I had the chicken fried steak sliders and loved every single morsel. The mac-n-cheese side was pretty good, but I should have went with their mashed potatoes. Thankfully with a group of 8 we all sampled and shared. The deviled eggs are to die for, and even though we were completely stuffed, our very sweet server talked us into banana pudding and buttermilk pie, both out of this world. If I could give this place another star, and visit, I definitely would.

This cafe deserves to be featured on the Food Network. The food was seasoned to perfection, portions satisfying, hot and fresh service. This visit made the 1hr & 6 mins worth it lol. I had the famous dip and a chicken fried steak topped with a chill relleno

Had the queso chicken fried steak... By far the best chicken fried steak I've ever had. The wife had the Dr. pepper short ribs. Mac n cheese was just okay, but all their beef products were out of this world.

Highly recommend, great place for a good meal. Ribeye steak vaquero style is my go to. Owner is great! Gave the kids some horse shoes lol

I ordered the chicken fried steak with the enchiladas. This restaurant claims they make the 4th best chicken fried steak in all of Texas but I would say it is probably the best! The chef prepares it very thin and the batter and pepper gravy is to die for. It tastes VERY fresh and while some individuals thought the cheese enchiladas were "weird with chicken fried steak" I totally disagree! I actually love the tex-mex flavors of them together along with the guacamole and salsa! Great combo!

Absolutely best chicken fried steak! I didn't realize that gravy isn't the only way top it. Mashed potatoes are fresh and seasoned well and the banana pudding is to die for. Love this place.

Hands down the best chicken fried steak I've ever had. The steak will take up your entire plate, so keep in mind that if you're not a big eater, you can easily split the meal with someone and some sides. It is breaded and fried to perfection as in, I typically am not a fan of places who use too much breading that it falls off. The restaurant is not very large and very cozy. Their specialty is chicken fried steak, so I did not have the opportunity to try anything else.

This is an amazing place....small, quaint, and rustic, it puts out some of the best food anywhere. The steak salad was phenomenal... wonderful little twists on classic cowboy favorites, everything cooked to perfection.. service was very attentive. I'll be back!

I had the Dry-Aged Beef Ribeye Vaquero Style and it was delicious. Amazing steak and wonderful atmosphere as well as service. Definitely returning.

For the price they charge it is not worth it at all you are mainly eating fried bread with no meat at all. My whole family was disappointed an I was humiliated because I told them it was going to be great but NOT.. so please don't waist your time folks find another place to eat

I feel like this place has a ton of potential. I know a lot of people who have had great experiences, but that wasn’t us. Went with some friends and our waitress was definitely having an off night. Forgot food for one of our friends, forgot refills, never came around to check on us, forgot drinks we had ordered, and then charged our cards for the wrong bills. I will say the the food however was pretty good. But unfortunately it was overshadowed by the poor service.

God this place is so tasty. Absolutely recommend the deviled eggs and any of the chicken fried steak options. Delish.

Horseshoe Hill has some amazing food! They’re onion rings and biscuits provide some delicious appetizers, and the chicken fried steak is truly legendary! You can’t go wrong coming here if you want a truly phenomenal meal.

Truly one of the better chicken fried steaks I have eaten in this area, reason for four stars is our server wasn't very attentive.

Magnificent and Soulful!!!What a privilege and an honor to have met the kindest and most friendliest person ever! His name is Grady. We never met before and he offered me and my 3 sons to eat at this amazing restaurant! We took him up on his offer and we were not disappointed! The chicken fried steak was seasoned to perfection! I’ve had plenty of chicken fried steak in my day. But this was the most tender and seasoned to perfection chicken fried steak and gravy I’ve ever had! I will tell all of my friends and family! I only wish I had the option to give 6 stars! This place was really incredible. I came on a Wednesday evening and it was fairly slow and I felt like I was back in the kitchen of some old friends. I was treated with nothing but perfect Texan kindness and attention and the meal was not only especially well plated but expert crafted. What an experience! They deserve to be the highest rated place on Yelp. Now they just need more 5 star reviews.

Quaint, intimate eatery with a good rating. I'm an out-of-towner, so I lean on Google ratings. This place deserves a higher rating than it's got. It's off the main drag, and 2 blocks up the hill. Not inaccessible, but also easy to overlook. Don't.Food was great, service solid & attentive. I say at the time bar, watched my meal get cooked they the screen door, and enjoyed quiet time. Loved my sirloin, and I swapped cheese grits from potatoes... Excellent exchange!

I had been wanting to try the chicken fried steak at Horseshoe Hill Cafe in Fort Worth's historic Stock yards for a while and was not disappointed when I finally got around to it. We chose the Cowboy style, which was the most basic of their multiple chicken fried steak options, and it was great. The breading on the chicken fried steak was fantastic, as was the mashed potatoes and cream gravy. The portion size was large enough for my wife and I to share. We also ordered their macaroni and cheese to share and we both thought it was just okay. The restaurant itself was cozy and had a nice cowboy cafe feel to it. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

The staff is high energy and always smiling. Came in here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. Cherie was extremely pleasant and gave us great menu guidance. The Cowboy Way country fried steak is good enough for two people. Grady, the owner, made sure that we were taking care of and had a great time! We strongly recommend this restaurant and hope everybody has a great time like we did.

We had an excellent experience, and service. The food was absolutely to die for , the portions are large so you may want to consider sharing a plate or taking home leftovers because you won’t want to waste a bite!

Super tasty chicken fried steak. They only offer wine and beer. Great little spot, super cute inside, and highly recommend the chicken fried steak the cowboy way (just peppered gravy).

Phenomenal food and service. Great staff who are friendly and kind. You can also catch the owner Grady working and talking with guest. The food is awesome! I highly recommend it. Best chicken fried steak I have ever had. I can't wait to go back!

Ordered the chicken fried steak sliders with mashed. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Very friendly and warm staff.

This place renewed my faith that there is food out there than can delight my taste buds. Excellent and unique flavors.

Of course the CFS is wonderful, but equally great is the veggie plate, desserts, deviled eggs and the homemade biscuits.

If I could give no stars I would We made reservations 3 days ago, yet were made to wait 1 hour 15 minutes to be seated. Are presently at our table and have been served one drink ( no request for seconds), received one appetizer but not the other, and have no clue whether the main dishes we ordered will ever come. There are 6 of us. Will NEVER return.

They have a limited menu, mostly chicken fried steak. But they do what they do WELL! They recently became BYO though they still have a house chardonnay, a sweet red, and some beer.

This is a restaurant located in the stockyards...so you know the price is going to be a little bit higher now the question is does the food match the price and unfortunately I have to tell you NO not really. The Bob Arnold dip in the Mason Jar was good. The chicken fried steak unfortunately doesn't even make my top 10 list. The chicken fried steak was blanketed in heavy flour coating that seemed like it was more breading than chicken fried steak. Our waitress was nice enough but my wife, our three kids and I were seated in a small room with one large party, no issue there until two more large parties were seated in there also and that's when we were forgotten and the noises were deafening. We got our own take out boxes and got out of there as fast as possible and yes I still left a good tip, not the waitresses fault she was over loaded with guests. I just drove 4 hours in from Houston and I chose this place based on reviews and I got to tell you, I was a little disappointed.

If you're a couple, do yourselves a favor and split the chicken fried steak.

Kitchen cooked up 2 "Calf fries" by special request for myself and a guest!The chicken fried steak with the cheese enchilada is a must! Be sure to also order the carrots - SO worth it! The whole meal was split between two people and was plenty! Great attentive staff. I will be returning!
